Project Update, July 2021: Engagement on the Riverside Adventure Park Playground Replacement is now complete and the project is entering the construction phase. For construction updates, please visit the City's Projects on the Go Page here.

Project Update, April 16, 2021:Thank you to everyone who participated our Phase 2 Public Engagement. We have heard that Option A-Sea Star is preferred: the star-shaped, purple rubberized surface and two separate pieces of play equipment (one for toddlers and one for older, school aged children).

Option ‘A’ has been further developed in response to the community input regarding requests for:

  • improved access to and between play zones;
  • social seating opportunities for caregivers;
  • inclusion of an accessible picnic table; and
  • safer retaining wall edges that add play value.

As budget allows, there will be consideration given to additional requests for paths from the lower area of the park to the play zones, provision for bicycle/stroller parking, additional picnic tables and inclusion of games/features for adults.

The preferred design option was endorsed by Council on April 12, 2021. Click here to review the council report.

The project will move forward into the detailed design phase, with the goal of starting construction in June 2021.

Riverside Adventure Park is a 0.69 hectare park in the Brow of the Hill neighbourhood, located at Fifth Avenue & Sharpe Street. The original adventure playground was built in 1972, with a major upgrade to the playground completed in 1995. Due to its age, the playground was scheduled for replacement in 2021; however, it has reached end of life sooner than expected. As a result, the slide climbing tower play structure was removed in October 2020.

Staff from the Parks & Recreation Department are now expediting a community engagement process to design the replacement playground. Once a playground design is developed that meets the community’s needs and fits within the allocated budget, construction of the playground will commence with completion anticipated for May 2022.
