Next steps approved by Council include improvements to:
Onsite signage locations and information;
Number, type, location and servicing of waste and recycling receptacles;
Where and how additional seating may be accommodated in the designated zones;
How to receive feedback from those who book picnic shelters;
Monitoring of each park to ensure they are safe and welcoming for all.
Project Update, December 1, 2021: Thank you to all who provided input for this engagement. The Engagement Summary Report for the Alcohol in Parks Pilot is now available. Please click here to read the report.
The City is seeking community feedback on the new program that allows alcohol consumption in several local parks. This pilot program, which has been in place since May 18, 2021, enables adults to drink responsibly within designated areas in seven New Westminster parks:
Grimston Park
Hume Park
Moody Park
Port Royal Park
Queen's Park
Sapperton Park
Westminster Pier Park
Alcohol consumption in these parks is permitted between 11:00 am until dusk, seven days a week, for those 19+.
Now that the summer season has wrapped up, we would like to know if you took advantage of the new program and how you feel the experience has been.
How can I participate?
A short survey has been launched to gather your feedback. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete, and will be open until October 27, 2021.
Have comments about a specific park or Alcohol Allowed Zone? Use the Map Tool to drop a comment and share your location-specific feedback with us.
